Celebrating a leading scholar’s impact on wireless networks and engineering innovation.

The Department of Electrical Engineering is proud to announce that Professor Gil Zussman has been named the Kenneth Brayer Professor of Electrical Engineering, effective January 1, 2025. This appointment recognizes his exceptional contributions to research, teaching, and scholarship at Columbia Engineering.

Professor Zussman, who also serves as Chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering, earned his PhD from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in 2004. After completing postdoctoral research at MIT, he joined Columbia Engineering in 2007. His Wireless and Mobile Networking lab  focuses on wireless, mobile, and resilient networks. Among many research contributions, he has led the design and deployment of the large scale NSF-funded PAWR COSMOS testbed which is a beyond-5G testbed deployed in West Harlem, in collaboration with Rutgers, NYU, CCNY and New York City. The testbed supports cutting-edge research in wireless communication, optical systems, smart cities, and edge cloud computing. The testbed also serves as a core resource for the NSF CS3 Engineering Research Center (ERC), based at Columbia Engineering, where Prof. Zussman leads the Wi-Edge thrust.

Professor Zussman is an IEEE Fellow and received the NSF CAREER Award, DTRA Young Investigator Award, Fulbright Fellowship, two Marie Curie International Fellowships, and the Janette and Armen Avanessians Diversity Award.
