Ph.D. student Shuyue Yu received the Best Paper Award in ACM IMC’26
WiMNet lab PhD student Shuyue Yu (co-advised with Prof. Ethan Benjamin Katz-Bassett) received the Best Paper Award in ACM IMC’26 for the following paper:
S. Yu, B. Spang, C. Garland, K. Chen, R. Gummadi, G. Zussman, E. Katz-Bassett, T.-Y. Huang, and R. Teixeira, “Measuring service congestion, sharing, and pacing in a residential access network,” in Proc. ACM IMC’26, 2026. [download]
This work is based on a collaboration that Shuyue led with both Netflix and YouTube and relies on a unique dataset that she has been collecting from Columbia University residential buildings.
The paper studies congestion in residential networks and investigate how traffic pacing can improve performance, not only for the service applying pacing, but also for other services sharing the network. It shows that pacing can significantly reduce packet loss and queueing delays, even in seemingly well-provisioned networks.
