Prof. Zussman received the Janette and Armen Avanessians Diversity Award

Prof. Zussman received the Janette and Armen Avanessians Diversity Award from the School of Engineering at Columbia University. The award, established in 2007, honors faculty members whose actions encourage women and men from diverse backgrounds to become part of the academic community of engineering education. Among other things, the award recognizes Prof. Zussman contributions to the NSF COSMOS/EFRI program for teachers that he has co-led since 2018. Every summer during the past 5 summers, the program brought together between 7 and 15 science and math teachers from New York City public schools and mentors from Columbia and NYU. Using the COSMOS education toolkit, the teachers and mentors created labs and lessons that highlight the real-world application of science and engineering in their classrooms.
